Abstract

Audio documentary titled “Artist Spotlight: John Hammond,” written, produced, and narrated by Dutch Hoggatt for broadcast on KVHU 95.3.

The documentary examines the life and career of American record producer and civil rights activist John Hammond. Hammond was born in New York City in 1910. He died in New York City in 1987 at age 76. Hammond is among the most influential figures in popular music. He discovered and promoted the careers of a number of musicians, including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and many others. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 in the first class of inductees.

The audio documentary won Best of Competition in the 2020 Broadcast Education Association National Faculty Audio Competition.
