False Profits: An Economics Primer About Americans "Going for Broke" and Nearly Making It
Don P. Diffine Ph.D.
Has there been any time in history when government could successfully spend private sector money (by first taxing it), borrow the difference (deficit spending), and crowd out private sector long run borrowing (causing higher interest rates)--all to try to bring about growth, economic recovery, jobs, and stable prices? Should we worry that our government's ambitious spending plans could be like the proverbial drunken sailor squandering his paycheck on leave? At least it was his own money!
Remember Margaret Thatcher? "The problem with Socialism," she said, "is that, sooner or later, we run out of other people's money..."

For Patriot Dream: America Freedom Endures
Don P. Diffine Ph.D.
This book describes what in the world is at stake for America's war on terrorism. How shall we gauge the future of our land so recently visited with terrorism against our pillars of capitalism? For over 200 years, our country, through freedom and hard work, has changed the world. Our religious freedoms, civil freedoms, human rights, and the importance we place on the dignity of the individual--all these set us apart. Among all the world's nations, America still stands out in front. We should never forget that we are Americans, first, last, and always.

Same Planet - New World?: A Chronicle of the American Century
Don P. Diffine Ph.D.
This book is a normative audit of the past hundred years in the U.S. economy. As we tiptoe into the new millennium, we are the oldest living republic. However, let's remember that our Constitution doesn't guarantee us a good life, prosperous life, a happy life, or even a long life. It only offers the protection of life. We make of our lives what we will. We should bet on the long run future success of American capitalism. If we don't have a future, nobody does.

Investing in Futures: A Normative Profile for Generations
Don P. Diffine Ph.D.
This book is about investing in futures, as in future generations, guiding young people to be responsible individuals. It is dedicated to hearty souls who are both old enough to know the score and also young enough to enjoy the game of life as it was meant to be played according to the Designer of the Universe.
This book is a sequel to What I Know Now That I Wish They'd Told Me Back Then--A Time Capsule of Advice from Baby Boomers to the Baby Busters of Generation X (1995); Children--America's Greatest Natural Resource (1996); and How to Avoid Being Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart--More Sage Wisdom from Pre-Boomers and Baby Boomers to the Yuppie Puppies of Generation X (1997).

Whatever Happened to Truth, Justice, and the American Way?
Don P. Diffine Ph.D.
The story of the American incentive system is the story of all the people in it. Each American needs to know how he fits into the story, what his part is, and what he can do to make the picture better. This book also celebrates, and puts great emphasis on, our Creator who made life not only possible but also worthwhile. Any yet, as Americans are so cosmopolitan in personality, they certainly are not of one mind on the issue of free, private enterprise. Many Americans seem to assume that free enterprise is a natural condition, but the fact is that throughout most of history, there has been little freedom of enterprise until it was nurtured here under the U.S. Constitution.

How to Avoid Being Too Soon Old Too Late Smart: More Sage Wisdom from Pre-Boomers and Boomers to the Yuppie Puppies of Generation X
Don P. Diffine Ph.D.
We must learn from those who have been around the block a few more times than we have. As the earth rotates, Father Time stands still for none of us. Education lasts all our lives: womb to tomb. So, can we who are life's veterans think of a better reason for feeling good about putting our best thoughts in How to Avoid Being Too Soon Old and Too Late Smart? If we could just get our young people to read this valuable time capsule, we'd be helping them to stay right side up and on track for their life's journey.

Arkansas and the U.S. Economy in the Late 20th Century: Reinventing Ourselves Inside Out for a Better Tomorrow
Don P. Diffine Ph.D.
Arkansas is truly an ideal spot in our great land. Situated at the buckle of the Sunbelt, Arkansas is benefiting from the northeast-to-southwest shift of population in the United States. The migration from frostbelt to sunbelt, and the economic emergence of the southern tier of states, have thrust our Natural State into the middle of today's action. A full 50 percent of the U.S. population is within a 550-mile radius of Arkansas' borders. More than 1,000,000 people live within a one-hour's drive of our state Capital.
The entire mid-south has been an underdeveloped region in the past, but it is catching up; it has a better growth potential than any other region of the country. Future growth into the mid-south will probably come from the continued migration of manufacturing, and private-service industries to take advantage of our region's relatively lower wages, taxes, energy costs, land costs, and mild climate. Yes, as with a developing country, the south as reached the "take-off" stage of its economic growth. And we're Arkansas proud!

Children: America's Greatest Natural Resource
Don P. Diffine Ph.D.
This book deals with two profound questions: First, "what can we do, in the name of Godly charity and true religion, to keep on providing help, assistance, support, love, care and nurturing for birthmothers? And second, "what can we also do to keep finding ways, in these complex legal times, that such children can continue to fill the aching voids in the hearts of other childless couples?"

What I Know Now That I Wish They'd Told Me Back Then: A Time Capsule of Advice from Baby Boomers to the Baby Busters of Generation X
Don P. Diffine Ph.D.
Consider this--if the fountain of youth is unattainable, wouldn't it be great to avoid being, as the Dutch say, "too soon old and too late smart?" After all, nobody gets a second chance to go through life again. Alas, we must learn from those who have been around the block a few more times than we have. We won't live long enough to make all their collective mistakes--as resourceful as we might be behind their backs.
Those wonderful voluntary participants interested in this writing project, most of whom had done a "heap of living," were encouraged to focus their wisdom and sage advice on a smorgasbord of topics. On all fronts, the preliminary results of these essays have been thrillingly tender and movingly profound. Enjoy.
