1979 Time Capsule
PLEASE NOTE: Brackett Library is working diligently to digitize the items from the 1979 time capsule. While we work, enjoy the items we have completed, and please come back often to see what's new!
Harding College reached a milestone in 1979--the transition from college to university. To commemorate this achievement, Harding celebrated University Day on August 27, 1979. As part of the festivities, members of the Harding community collected items for a time capsule that was to be opened in 2024 when the university would celebrate her 100th birthday.
Items placed in the time capsule included the proclamation from the Board of Trustees of Harding's new status, the first Harding University catalog, a lock of Dr. Jimmy Carr's hair, a bow tie from Dr. Joe Pryor, and over 1,100 signatures from students, faculty, and staff. The time capsule was buried on October 4, 1979. It was opened in chapel on September 5, 2024, as part of the Founders Day celebrations.
