Abstract

This articles explores the preservation of Abu Simbel and its role in sparking an international interest in cultural heritage. Additionally, the author analyzes the current UNESCO World Heritage system in light of its beginnings at Abu Simbel.

About the Author

L. Olivia Womack is a senior Political Science and Spanish double major from Rogers, Arkansas. She is currently serving as President of the American Studies Institute Officer Council, and she was the President of Chi Omega Pi women’s social club in the Fall 2019 semester. After graduating in May 2020, Olivia plans to pursue a career in public service in Washington, DC.
