Maya Angelou was an American poet, singer, memoirist, and civil rights activist. She published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, several books of poetry, and is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years. I would recommend The Complete Collected Poems of Maya Angelou because her poetry sings and is quiet, cries and laughs, and stands still and dances on the imagination so that as you read you are transported to a different time, place and purpose. You experience life through her eyes, which transforms life in your eyes.
