Abstract

A critique is presented of the poem "Fission" by Jorie Graham, focusing on her interpretation of dualism, adolescence, and the artistic philosophy of Greek philosopher Plato. Philosophies of intellectual development, Plato's allegory of the cave, and the poem's depiction of a movie theater screening of the film "Lolita" by director Stanley Kubrick are discussed, as well as aesthetics in poetry.
